Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
