Wimbledon Adopts Video Review Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.

Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Players will gain the right to challenge specific rulings made by the official, following the protocol currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This development arrives only a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Importantly, there is no cap on the number of challenges a competitor can ask for.

A Recent Example

An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
